Our Annual Awards Events

Awards Night 2011

Awards Evening at Ramada Hotel, Crewe

Another evening filled with interesting company, lots of like-minded friends to chat with about our driving experiences, good food and awards.

Our engaging speaker was Chris Gilbert who gave us an anecdotal run through his 45 years of involvement in driver training. Chris taught high performance advanced driving for 22 years as a Class 1 Police Driving Instructor with the Metropolitan Police. As a Police Staff Trainer, Chris told us how he helped to select and train new police and civilian instructors and perfected a range of teaching techniques for converting Class 1 police drivers into Advanced Class 1 Instructors.

We were impressed to hear how Chris has given driver training to Prince William, Prince Harry, The Duchess of York, The Duchess of Gloucester and the Earl of Ulster... He has a long association with both the IAM and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

'Remember to switch your eyes onto main beam' has become Chris' strap line and this was certainly something I think we all took away from his talk on the evening.

After an enjoyable chicken dinner it was time for the awards:

  • Austin Bland Young Associate of the Year Stuart Morris Runner up
  • Chris West Observer of the Year Andrew LLoyd Runner up
  • Scott Preece Associate of the Year Sudhi Bhattacharjee Runner up

I think Scott deserves a special mention for his perseverance and his never, EVER giving up, positive attitude. Scott's proud mum, Eileen, was with him to share his achievements and take lots of photos! Eileen talked to me on the night about how she had cared for Scott over the years after his road traffic accident when no-one knew whether he would live, never mind drive again and certainly not become an advanced driver in the future!

Ian Hughes was paid a wonderful tribute for his continuing work as a Senior Observer, by James Sinstadt, who also thanked Ian for his work as a Committee Member and skid-pan event organiser, roles he is stepping down from this autumn. Ian has been a committee member for many years and thoroughly deserved this award for: "Outstanding Contribution to Crewe and Nantwich Advanced Motorists"

A huge thank you must go to Kim Cooper for organising this evening and ensuring that all went very smoothly on the night.

Thanks also to Sudhi for being our professional photographer on the evening. His photos will appear on the website shortly.

Last, but not least, thanks to Ramada Encore, Crewe, for hosting our 4th Awards Evening.
